The Voice Winners Girl Named Tom Coming to the Michigan Theatre

(February 28, 2022 10:12 AM) Country Boots & Bands and The Michigan Theater today announced Girl Named Tom will perform at The Michigan Theatre on  April 22, 2022.   Girl Named Tom is an American folk trio from Pettisville, Ohio, consisting of siblings Caleb, Joshua, and Bekah Liechty. They are the winners of season 21 of the NBC talent competition The Voice, with the distinction of being the first trio to win The Voice. During the 2021 season, they landed 4 songs concurrently on the iTunes Top 10 charts, with 2 songs reaching #1, plus they received praise from both mentor Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande, who stated, “They are the most special thing I have seen on this show”.   The band, established in 2019, began by touring the country in their old minivan, playing 67 shows in 27 cities.   According to the band’s website, the name is based on a childhood nickname. Joshua used to call Bekah "Thomas" when she was a baby. In 2022, Girl Named Tom plans to release a full-length album. Hank Williams, Jr., Granger Smith Join Jackson County Fair Lineup

(February 28, 2022 9:42 AM)  The Jackson County Fair today announced that country music icon, Hank Williams Jr. with special guest Granger Smith featuring Earl Dibbles Jr., will join their entertainment lineup at the Jackson County Fair this summer on August 9, 2022. Hank Williams Jr. has sold over 70 million albums sold worldwide, including six platinum albums, 20 gold albums, 13 No. 1 albums, and 10 No. 1 singles. He has garnered industry recognition as an ACM Entertainer of the Year, CMA Entertainer of the Year, and BMI Icon. Hank Williams, Jr. is a Grammy award winner and an inductee in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2021 he carried on the family tradition with a pandemic-delayed induction into Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame Class of 2020. Swimming SEC final: Jackson High School finished third in the Southeastern Conference final over the weekend at home. Jackson finished with 487 points finishing behind Pinckney (552) and Chelsea (522). Dylan Marshallsay of Jackson won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.41 seconds. Jackson also won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:30.52 with a team of Marshallsay, Blake Hetherington, Steven DeVaughn, and Mason Rose. Rose finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.91) and second in the 100-yard butterfly (57.29), Hetherington placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (49.66), DeVaughn was second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:06), Marshallsay was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02), and Jackson took second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:31 with Hetherington, DeVaughn, Will Snyder, and Logan McKinney.  PGA Tour Courtesy PGA Tour Jackson native Brian Stuard finished tied for ninth place at the Honda Classic near Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., on the PGA Tour this weekend. Hoop Makes Successful Transition From Running to Hockey

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (February 27, 2022 8:00 AM) Lumen Christi Catholic High School athlete Matt Hoop has made a number of transitions in sports. Up until his freshman year, Hoop did not play goalie on his various hockey teams. He made the move to goalie as a freshman learning through a number of coaches. For two-thirds of the year, he is a successful runner at Lumen Christi. Saturday Hoop closed out his hockey career with a 4-1 loss to East Grand Rapids in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 regional semifinal. This spring he will compete in track and field and transition into running at Trine University next fall. Along the line, Hoop has experienced a lot in sports – especially hockey. “I have met so many friends through hockey,” Hoop said. “You learn that effort takes you a long way in this sport.” Hoop started for the Titans as a junior and had a successful season for the Titans this winter. He had a save percentage of .914 with three shutouts. Hoop earned 16 wins this season for the Lumen Christi, despite testing positive for COVID-19 midway through the season. “My freshman and sophomore year…

Boys basketball Tecumseh 51, Concord 49: Concord lost in a non-conference game at home on Saturday night. The Yellow Jackets are 13-5 on the season.   Girls basketball Concord 46, Britton-Deerfield 43: The Yellow Jackets earned a non-conference win at home on Saturday. Concord finishes the regular season with a 7-11 record.  Boys Bowling MHSAA regional bowling tournaments Feb. 26 (individuals) Division 1 at Canton: Kenyon Buckner of Jackson finished 41st overall at the MHSAA regional individual tournament at Superbowl in Canton. He finished the six-game qualifying with a score of 1,137. The top 10 individual bowlers advance to the state meet.  Division 2 at Vicksburg: Northwest High School dominated the singles’ tournament with three individual qualifiers at the MHSAA regional at Vicksburg. Ryan Wenman won the regional title for NWHS with a six-game score of 1,211. Teammates Damien Milliman was second (1,207) and Logan Jahr finished eighth (1,166). The trio will compete in the MHSAA state finals next Saturday at Super Bowl in Canton, Mich. Tobyn LePeak of Western finished 37th overall at the individual regional with a score of 1,019.
