iCreate Poetry Contest Performance Main Event

The 2014 iCreate Poetry Contest Main Event will be held at the Michigan Theatre Wednesday, March 5th at 6:30.  iCreate founder John Voelz will be among the dozen or so musicians performing student poetry in song.  More than 40 poems have been selected to be turned into songs in themes of perseverance, hope, courage or peace.  Admission is free and open to all.  Other guests:  Jackson Mayor Jason Smith;  Cindy Lyons, Jackson Area Career Center;  Sue Lovell, Cascades Humane Society "Pet of the Week";   a visit to St. Joseph Parish for the annual Paczki making event.

Author Publishes Memoir

Maria Orlowski, PhD has published a memoir of her experiences as a "Hidden Child" growing up in Poland during the Holocaust of World War II.  "Trains:  A Memoir of a Hidden Childhood during and after World War II" is available at the Ella Sharp and Allegiance gift shops, Cuppa Coffeehouse and online.  Born Miriam Winter, Maria lost her entire family and lived in hiding while being shuttled from family to family to avoid capture by the Nazis.  Maria is a Jackson resident and retired Adjunct Instructor for Jackson College.  Other guests:  Michael Masters, President of Jackson Preparatory and Early College;  Judy Gail Krasnow, Historic Prison Tours;  Mike Shore with the Western Schools time capsule opening ceremony;  Melissa Peters and Gretchen Dula, Jackson District Library's Cat in the Hat event this Saturday.

House Looking at Auto Insurance Overhaul

64th District State Representative Earl Poleski and House Republicans are considering a plan unveiled by Speaker Jase Bolger that would provide 10% yearly savings on auto insurance premiums while limiting benefits.  The plan would put a cap on catastrophic medical benefits at $10 million.   Poleski says the change could allow more insurers to enter the state and provide lower premiums by way of competition.  Other guests:  "In the Kitchen" with Lisa Spampinato, Personal Chef;  Larry Jacobson, JTV Sports;  Shannon Lowder, Rachel Flowers and Betsy Vickers, A Healing Place;  Aaron Ring, PC Solutions.

Educator of the Year

The JAMA Educator of the Year, John Riedeman of the Jackson Area Career Center updated viewers on the First Robotics team progress in preparing for competition next month.  Students Tyler Schiller, Hanover Horton senior and Kyle Fouty, Western senior are among the team members who have been building a robot for the statewide competition.  The Career Center will hold an open house for prospective students and their families on Thursday, February 27th.  Other guests:  Tina Hamilton, CEO, Michigan Community Credit Union;  Kathryn Williams, Clinical Director, AWARE;  Catina Lowe, American Cancer Society:  a visit to Laughlin's Slice of Spice.

Weather Creates Roof and Flooding Issues

O'Harrow Construction Co. Groundbreaking Date Set for Northwest Schools

Show Reaches Guest Milestone of 22,000

Record Buck Visits Show

Jackson resident Scott Vogt bagged the third largest buck ever in Michigan bow hunting history last November and displayed his prized trophy on today's show.  Using a compound bow, Scott brought down the 252 deer in southern Jackson county.  The 15 point buck had an antler measure of 176 inches.  After a visit to the taxidemist, the trophy resides in his home along with an elk he bagged in Colorado earlier in the year.  Other guests:  Western Schools Superintendent Michael Smajda;  BuilderWalk with General Materials;  Coffee Talk with Robert Ernst, Jackson Coffee Company;  Alex Cash, Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan;  Elaine Robinson, Michigan Historic Preservation Network.

Women’s Heart Health Month
